what to do in the area
The Lot-et-Garonne; an attractive holiday destination. Many people are surprised by the pleasant atmosphere, the friendly people, the hospitality and the character of the region. There is still plenty of space to enjoy your rest, but also offers plenty of opportunities for an unforgettable holiday.
Driving around in the beautiful hilly French country, where the fields of sunflowers alternate with corn, and then again vines ... Versatile, beautiful and quiet. Lot-et-Garonne is also sometimes called the second Tuscany.
Many small interesting towns, Nerac, Vianne, Duras.... Or visit the beautiful famous wine village of Saint Emilion, 70km from us ....
Less than 10km away, you will find the village of Le Mas d'Agenais, there hangs in the church a real Rembrandt painting, a real must and not only for the culture lover.
Bordeaux is 80km away from us and is a beautiful metropolis. Spending a day there is no punishment. Beautiful buildings, large shopping streets.
A day trip to the Atlantic coast is also recommended. To Archacon, where the oyster farmers have made their name or to the tourist beach town of Mimizan plage. Also the highest dune in Europe, the dune de Pilat is worth to climb.
Of course you will also find plenty of traditional markets and brocantes/vide greniers (flea markets).
Although we are in the middle of the countryside and you can enjoy all the peace and quiet around you, we live only 2 km from our village Casteljaloux, which has about 6000 inhabitants.
Casteljaloux has a lot to offer
- a lovely swimming lake with beach, where every summer
an Aqua Fun Park on the lake is set out
- a Survival course and paintball at the lake,
- the 18-hole golf course,
- Thermes, a health resort,
- riding school of Casteljaloux
- restaurants (Chinese, pizzerias, tapas bar, etc.)
- 2 supermarkets
- 3 brocante shops
- bakers, butchers,
- Tuesday morning market and Saturday morning only vegetable
In the neighbourhood there is the possibility of canoeing, renting a boat and going on the Canal du Midi, fishing for trout, cycling for the experienced cyclist - it is quite hilly here...
Just take your bike with you, we will gladly take you on a sporty tour through the beautiful French landscape. Possibly there can also be rented a VTT bike from us.
Driving around is a great way to discover the most beautiful, quiet villages and fortified towns or to paddle in the river Lot or Garonne.
Visiting a castle, strolling around on the vide-greniers (flea markets) and brocantes etc. etc. etc.
And don't forget the summery 'marche gourmandes', sitting at long tables and at the stands you can decide what you want to eat.
